before YOU pay for SEO services

DressThatMan.com would like to send out a warning to those of you who are contemplating paying for SEO services. We get several requests every week to add links to our site, or... to exchange links. Unfortunately, the buyer of such services may not know who they are dealing with, or what SEO services actually are and what they can do for you.

Anyone who tells you that they can GUARANTEE or even PROMISE, your website or company will magically appear at the top of search engines in exchange for money is completely full of shit. For one, if it WAS true, then how could "everyone" be there. It's ridiculous. In fact, some of the SEO practices we've seen, they could actually penalize your site.

We get crap like this all the time:

Dear Webmaster

As a part of an ongoing campaign to increase the Link Popularity of our client's web site I am looking for some related web sites like yours to exchange links with... blah, blah, blah....

Such requests to exchange links are generally, and obviously, from people who have never bothered to visit the DressThatMan.com site, yet are looking for "related web sites like yours..."

Hello? What do Tree Trimming Services, women's lingerie, dog food, car parts and diapers have to do with DressThatMan.com? Hmmmm... ok, so you're late for the disco party because you need a part for your car. Before you get into that leisure suit, you put a diaper on your dog and feed it. Then, you grab your cell phone and climb a tree wearing women's lingerie. Good thinking on grabbing that cell phone, because now you can't get down and now you have to call a Tree Trimming Service to come and rescue you.

Typing in "SEO rip off" in Google will get you nearly a million results. These people prey on the fact that many people just don't understand how things work and are willing to pay for results that most likely will never materialize. There are plenty of sharks and scammers out there who will take your money by preying on what you don't know, or... your fears. Remember Y2K? The fear based hoopla that amounted to a huge Chicken Little story... then you know what I mean.

Your best bet is to do your homework and do it yourself because nobody knows your company or website like you do yourself. At DressThatMan.com we have done all of our SEO work in-house and are tweaking here and there as warranted. We've spent time educating ourselves on website related relevancy issues, SEO practices, how search engines are supposed to work, search engine algorithms, etc.

We are totally committed to growing our site and to the success of it. At DressThatMan, we are busy behind the scenes concentrating on dishing up the funky new and vintage fashions that men love, and continually striving to surpass our high quality standards in-house.

What's the point of constantly spending time trying to be number 1 on the search engines, or blindly throwing money at it because of promises made, if the bottom line is... you just don't have the goods once a visitor arrives? Being in the top 10 on any search engine is only as good as the relevancy your product or service has to a potential customer.

That's also our theory in paying for advertising as well. If you're gonna pay for it, you'd better be able to pony up once that visitor clicks your link. Don't over hype what you don't have.

Don't let people sell you what you don't need, based on fear.

On the other hand, if you're reading this and don't buy a disco shirt or something else from DressThatMan.com within 5 minutes...

Feel the BEAT of the Tambourine

It’s Saturday and we’re working away in the DressThatMan.com warehouse surrounded by an excessive amount of men’s 70’s fashion, sorting through boxes of new, old 1970’s unworn deadstock items that just arrived here from Europe. Extraordinarily delighted with the new treasure and simultaneously listening to TOTALLY SEVENTIES on Sirius Radio, and fully caffeinated with Italian Illy coffee beans to the point that we are verified Illians.

Dancing Queen by Abba… comes on the radio and we crank it UP.

…where they sing repeatedly… “feel the beat of the tambourine.”

Many 60’s and 70’s bands indeed had a tambourine involved in their music making. Remember My Green Tambourine by the Lemon Pipers? Stevie Nicks on stage jamming with her tambourine? Davy Jones of the Monkees? Roger Daltry of the Who? Mama Cass?

Yep. Abba’s Dancing Queen started us thinking and yakking away. We started to wonder, “whatever happened to the tambourine?” And, “does a tambourine by itself really have a verifiable beat?”

Bass drums have a beat. Most of us don’t think of a tambourine as having a danceable beat on its own…, no matter what Abba claims so sweetly in that Dancing Queen song. Small western tambourines have more of a jingle jangle, shaking up the silverware drawer sound. Plus, there is not ONE famous tambourine soloist in the world. Because if there was, someone would hurt them.

Lately the only person we’ve seen seriously shaking up a tambourine is Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, and she can shake it, baby! But it seems the vast majority of tambourines today have become relegated to grade school rhythm bands of children, who aren’t actually playing them, but use them as a lure to get families to school events and see their child on stage. “Look, there’s Little Johnny right there with the tambourine.”

That same kid at home banging around a tambourine for more than 10 minutes is soon sitting in the naughty corner, with the tambourine hidden in an unreachable location. Those embarrassing tambourine pictures on stage will one day come back to haunt him.

One of our staff members said that as a kid, they were quite ticked off to be handed the tambourine percussion instrument in school band, but… not as completely pissed off as when they had been given the triangle and stick to play. You can be sure THAT little tidbit of information will surely be added to the Christmas gift list for 2007.

“Hey. Mister Tambourine man, play a song for me…”

...yeah right. Try playing a song by hand on the tambourine - by itself. One we can recognize.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The tambourine is actually an ancient instrument and can be traced back to most ancient civilizations. If you’d like to read up on the History of the Tambourine, go here.

70's DISCO PARTY DANCE MUSIC

UPDATE: be sure to check out our super groovy compilation of authentic 1970's disco party dance music for your ipod from DressThatMan.com's iTunes iMix here.

Hey, man!
Now that you're all dressed to kill in funky fashions from the 70's you
bought from your primo disco clothes dealer, DressThatMan... you need to get your hot hands on some great disco dancing music by the original artists from the seventies to get that party started. Because wearing funked up authentic 70s fashion just isn't enough, you gotta get down and boogie to the beats and give that polyester a workout.

If you were a complete purist being true to the 70's disco era, you'd be spinning records... but, we know that not many people not of the era actually have record players anymore. And, lucky for you much of the original music of the seventies has been remastered and is now available on CD's so you can still kick out those jams. And, that's a good thing... because most of our disco music collection on record albums are scratched from too much partying with amateur inebriated DJs at the helm. Or, because we were fighting over which one would play next!

If you're setting up music for a retro disco theme party it's gotta be LOUD, baby! A big subwoofer would be an ideal addition to your CD system setup. Why? Because back in the disco days the thumping of the beat was so intense in some clubs you could feel the music pounding in your chest. OK... so we don't expect you to go THAT far, but... you get the picture.

Need help in the 70's dance moves department? Check out these DVD's full of music and performances by the original artists. Grab Superstars of Seventies Soul: LIVE watch it and learn to boogie from the masters. Another DVD you should definitely check out is KC and the Sunshine Band present Get Down Tonight -The Disco Explosion Live. Two great DVD's to play for your 70's party guests to get everyone in the Disco dancing party mood.

It's not a fun and fabulous 70's retro DISCO theme PARTY without the original fashion and the music!

Dress your men in authentic 70's fashion from DressThatMan.com: tight polyester disco pants, wild and crazy snug funky print disco shirts, vintage mens platform shoes, polyester disco leisure suits, big butterfly collars, flares, bell bottoms and more. Don't forget to take lots of pictures of your guests having a riot at your disco theme party, and after your hangovers subside... send us pics and become immortalized in the Funky Fashion Hall of Fame!

UNRELATED NEWS YOU CAN USE
Just a tip for all you people out there who are wine freaks and might be passing through the State of Michigan. We found this little place during our travels that is located in Muskegon, Michigan that makes some positively KICK ASS wine! We bought a case of assorted fruit wine flavors from Clay Avenue Cellars for our staff party and WOW... it was like a fruity warm explosion. They don't sell their wine online from their winery yet - maybe one day they will - we hope, otherwise we're gonna load up a truck whenever we happen to take a road trip and get out that way again. Feel free to write to them and tell them you want to be able to buy their fruit wines online, and maybe that little Michigan winery will listen to what the people want!

If they were closer to us we would easily become certified winos. After work of course, we wouldn't want the fruit flies around the packing tables...

What fuels our FEVER for VINTAGE CLOTHES?

The DressThatMan warehouse was blessed with the most stupendous gift ever. A DeLonghi Magnifica Espresso machine.

Of course, we bought it for ourselves, which is sometimes the best way to get a gift - because you will get EXACTLY what you want. And, seriously all we can say is that it is simply marvelous.

If you're really into coffee, cappuccino, espresso, lattes... all of it. This machine is THE freakin' BOMB.

We've been through many pounds of illy espresso beans already, and just picked up another 5 pound bag of espresso beans from Starbucks. We've got the coffee bar fully stocked with various sugar free flavorings and every accoutrement you can imagine related to making the most exquisite coffee. We're so thrilled to have the coffee shop in-house, we thought we'd share.

High octane fuel behind the funky facade of DressThatMan.com! If you're looking for a high end machine that does exactly what the maker claims - grab this one.

70's Fashion Fiascos: Book Review

OHMAHGAWD! If you want to trip out and experience some of the seventies gaudiest fashions, then this book is a MUST HAVE for you. We laughed so hard we cried, and THAT was just at the photographs.

Packed full of 70's trivia for both Men’s and Women’s fashion, with tantilizing tidbits and cultural landmarks of the seventies, this book is a fun flashback for those who lived through the decade, and a complete trip for those who newly discover it. Author Maureen Valdes Marsh of Vintage Grace, tackles the subject with humor and warmth.

A bit of trivia gleaned from the book... “In 1974 alone, manufacturers were selling wholesale volumes of approximately $1.7 billion in leisure suits. At an average retail price of $79 to $100, that’s a lot of leisure suits in the closet.” According to the inflation calculator, those suits would now be worth between $330 and $420 in 2006! But, you men who want to get funked up and relive the decade can buy an authentic 70’s vintage leisure suit from DressThatMan.com for far less, but enough about us - let's get back to the book.

Vividly illustrated throughout its 112 pages, this pop culture book is perfect for honing your seventies look and as a reference to the most flamboyant fashion decade known to man, and woman - the 1970's.

As passionate devotees to men’s far out and funky attire, DressThatMan.com wallows in in that colorful polyester wonderland. Kudos to Maureen for giving the world this colorful book we love!
